The Top 10 Big Ideas
1. Shop OfflineThe number of people who shop online is growing by the year. In 2013 it is expected that 189 million American will shop online and that will grow to over 200 million by 2015. And although people say shopping online saves them time and money, they are also sitting on their bootys when they are doing it. Taking your shopping OFFLINE forces you to stand, move, walk and be active in general. So don’t be afraid to brave the malls and get out there… it’s good for your health.
2. Get ConnectedThe Institute For Integrative Nutrition does an excellent job at putting food in it’s place… second place that is. According to IIN, “Healthy relationships, regular physical activity, a fulfilling career and a spiritual practice can fill your soul and satisfy your hunger for life. When primary food is balanced and satiated, your life feeds you, making what you eat secondary.” This holiday season instead of surrounding yourself with comfort foods, try surrounding yourself with comforting friends and family members. Do this, and I bet you the stress eating will decrease immensely.
3. Nix Energy SuckersHolidays have the capacity to drain us. However, with a little forethought and planning, we can find the time and energy for fitness through the festivities. Since Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the holiday madness for most, take some time to get organized. Engage in a little spring cleaning for your home and body this fall and throw out all the junk and clutter that is no longer serving you.
4. Take it to the Dance FloorTis the season for all sorts of parties, many that have a dance floor available. Now I know that many people do not think of themselves as dancers, but let me give you some statistics before you bail on this idea. In general, I burn 67 calories per hour while sitting. I burn 176 calories per hour slowly walking. And I burn 378 calories per hour while dancing. I burn close to 6 times as many calories by having fun shaking my tail feather . So I say, be the first to the dance floor and the last to leave. If maintaining a figure that is tight & right is a priority, this is a fantastic way to turn up your caloric burn while you make appearances.
5. Keep Your Stress in CheckHere’s the raw truth. Stress can undermine all your health and fitness goals. All that time you put in to work up a sweat can be erased if you don’t know how to keep your stress in check. Practices like meditation, deep belly breathing, and gratitude practices can all assist in you getting your nervous system to mellow out and help you lose weight with more precision.
6. Self-Flogging Will Make You FatterBuilding off of number 5, if your workouts stress you out, it’t time to pick a new activity. Preferably one you like. I am going to say something radical here…but your workout doesn’t have to hurt. In fact, the more you enjoy it, the better your results will be.
7. Try this 7-Minutes on for SizePeople are short on time during the holidays and many report that they don’t have time to workout. However, I say “yes you do!” It just might not look like your past workouts. You give me 7 minutes and I will keep you conditioned through the holiday season.
8. Time to Stop the Sweat-Cheat-Repeat NonsenseMany times we feel like after a rigorous workout we have earned the right to eat whatever we want. If you find this to be true for you, we have to address your “inner rebel” that feels like he/she is being denied something and therefore has to rebel. In order to break this cycle of sweat-cheat-repeat, you have to do something that is going to feel very counter-intuitive… you have to realize there are NO cheat foods. Everything is allowed. When you break the cycle of good vs. bad and you drop deeper into the realm of sensation and how your body feels. You will be able to hear what your body is really asking for, rather than engaging in rebellious behavior that has you reaching for holiday cookies that make you feel icky.
9. Plan an Athletic Event to Kick off 2014One way to make sure you stay on the workout train during the holidays is commit to an athletic endeavor the FIRST week of January. Having committed to a physical endeavor will provide you with the extra encouragement you need on the days when you might skip.
10. Your New Year’s Resolution Starts TodayInstead of waiting for January 1 to become a better you, why not start today??? HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Begin visualizing your ideal self come January 1st. Envision how you look, how you feel, and what you have accomplished. This visceral vision that you have planted will draw you towards itself with tremendous speed if you act from that place during the holidays.
