Description
Release year: 2006
Sport: Yanagi Ryu Aiki Bujutsu
Participants: Don Angier
Duration: total time – 121 min. (3 movies)
Commentary Language: English Description: A series of 3 DVD movies about various “unconventional” samurai weapons used in Yanagi ryu (full style name Yoshida-ha Sidare Yanagi ryu aikibujutsu): an iron fan (tessen) and a nightstick (jute) – movie 1, tanttro dagger) – movie 2 and a long chain scythe (kusarigama) – movie 3.
There is no material on the technique of working with these types of weapons in such a volume (and in one hand) on the tracker.
In fact, very, very little is for sale – and almost everything else (with the exception of the Ogawa-ryu films) is in Japanese. So… to all fans of traditional martial arts in Japan this is dedicated!
All movies are done very well:
– a brief history of the style and depicted on the weapons in the film; bases (grips, interceptions, positions, movements);
– strikes and defenses, targets of defeat;
– The working technique against various weapons (mainly the sword, but also against the spear, halberds, etc.) – from 15 to 25 kata for each type, both Suvar (sitting) and Tati (standing).
The film also includes work against one, two and three attackers with the help of grappling (protection against detention).
The culture of Yanagi ryu style movements is the technique of aiki jujutsu. The movies aren’t overloaded with terminology (technicians are simply numbered), so even newbies will have trouble with Japanese words.
Movie length:
Tessen and Jutte – 43 min.
Both – 39 min.
Kusarigama – 39 min.
