Description
This DVD is the result promoted by the Spanish branch of Zen Nihon Toyama-Ryu Iaido Renmei (ZNTIR – Spain Branch), to make known the technical content of the Toyama-Ryu style, as practiced in the Honbu Dojo of ZNTIR, in Machida, Tokyo, without modifications or alterations.
Such is the fidelity of the program that its President and maximum technical responsible Yoshitoki Hataya Sensei, who accompanied by some members, executes the entire compendium of the current program of the style. that’s why you can find the basic structure of the methodology that is applied there, from the codified warm-up and preparation exercises, passing through the cutting exercises; the guards; school kata, including those relating to Toyama Army Academy, Gunto Soho and its explanation; working with a partner, both in Kumitachi and Gekken Kumitachi, of the cornerstone on which Toyama-Ryu is based, that is, Tameshigiri or cutting exercises on a realistic target.
Zen Nihon Toyama-Ryu Iai-Do Renmei (ZNTIR) is the body that currently, once the concepts of the methodology of a school from a real combat method have been revised and adapted, intends to keep alive this tradition and the original forms, through a system where body, mind and spirit become one, in a realistic and effective way. Thanks to a few graduates of the Army’s Toyama Academy (Rikugun Toyama Gakko), who are committed and who continued in secret, keeping the technique alive even when the bans were lifted, returning sovereignty to the Japanese people, today we can know a style of fencing that is among the current schools of Iai-Do.
This is a detailed DVD in different languages, which turns out to be a valuable source for research and practice of the Japanese sword, as well as for martial artists in general and those interested in the history of Japan and its last world war. it’s a true luck, we can observe the techniques it contains and at least for serious scholars, it’s worth having it in your video library.
Practitioners of the style wish to loyally share the knowledge of our Japanese fencing school, in the hope that, at the same time, the inner values of those men-at-arms will permeate the new generations and allow us to glimpse a revulsion, in a traditional way, very different from the current one. focus on combat disciplines originating in Japan.
